Around 80% of Cambodia's exports come from the garment manufacturing industry. From sportswear brands like Nike, Adidas and Puma, to casual and fast fashion brands like H&M, Gap, and Levi's, Cambodia has been the choice for a clothes-making hub for many brands.

In 2022, an investigation by Greenpeace's Unearthed found waste produced by the manufacturing of clothes
for brands like Ralph Lauren and Nike being used as fuel for brick kilns, which can produce toxic fumes and
release microplastics into the atmosphere. Workers have reported symptoms like coughing, nose bleeds,
lung inflammation, and even the flu. Workers also face other challenging working conditions such as low
minimum wages, low health/safety standards, and excessive working hours (sometimes without the ability to
take bathroom breaks). It has not been easy for labor movements/unions to organize within Cambodia due to the passing
of laws that place restrictions on their operations.
